Author's Message

You all have done a great job thinking and using each others comments to help you figure out what each symbol means or what each could mean.

Now, I would like you to think about William Golding's message to his reader. Authors don't jut write books to write them; they write them as a commentary on what they are seeing in the "real world" and to teach us a lesson about mankind or ourselves.

Do you have an idea of what William Golding is trying to tell us about people in general? Think about the symbols and how they all intertwine.

We'll revisit this topic on Thursday when we meet.

  1. I think the author wrote this novel to show to the world his thoughts on our society. To show that when put in a situation, we will always take the easy road and not think about the benefits of working through the struggles. He used young boys as an example because they are in the middle of deciding which path they will take. There may be more reasons, but this is just one i though of

  3. I think that the author's message is that everybody's' reaction can be different from everybody else which might create rivalry but if their is at least one person willing to provide leadership and order there can be at least some civilization.
